Ubiquiti UniFi U7 Pro Max
The honest summary: this is a U7 Pro with a proper 6 GHz radio, and whether that is worth the premium depends entirely on whether your 6 GHz radio is doing real work.
When it is worth it
- 6 GHz is your primary band and most clients support it.
- Client density per access point is high — a meeting-heavy floor, a lecture space, a busy open-plan area.
- You need throughput at range on 6 GHz rather than only near the access point.
In those cases the 4x4 radio delivers measurably better performance at the coverage edge, which is where users actually complain.
When it is not
A small office, a home, a corridor, a low-density warehouse. In those environments the U7 Pro's 2x2 6 GHz radio is not the constraint, and you are paying for chains that will never be busy.
The deployment note that matters
Mixing U7 Pro and U7 Pro Max in one building is entirely reasonable and often the right answer: Pro Max in the dense areas, Pro everywhere else. Check your PoE budget when you do — the Pro Max draws more, and a switch sized for a floor of U7 Pros may not carry a floor of Maxes.
Key specifications
| Standard | Wi-Fi 7 (802.11be), tri-band |
|---|---|
| Radios | 2.4 GHz 4x4, 5 GHz 4x4, 6 GHz 4x4 |
| Uplink | 2.5 GbE |
| Power | 802.3at PoE+ (higher draw than the U7 Pro) |
| Mounting | Ceiling or wall |
What it does well
- 4x4 on all three bands — a materially better 6 GHz radio than the U7 Pro
- Better link budget at range on 6 GHz, which is where it matters most
- Handles higher client density per radio
- Still runs on 802.3at rather than requiring 802.3bt
- Same management experience as the rest of the range
Where it disappoints
- Meaningfully more expensive than the U7 Pro for a gain most sites will not notice
- Higher power draw pushes switch PoE budgets sooner
- Physically larger and more visible
- Wasted in a low-density space — the U7 Pro is the better value there
- 6 GHz coverage is still smaller than 5 GHz regardless of chain count
