Ubiquiti UniFi Pro Max 24 PoE
Wi-Fi 7 access points on 1 GbE ports cannot deliver Wi-Fi 7. This is the switch that fixes that, and it is the line item most wireless projects forget to include.
The three checks
Uplink speed to the access point. 2.5 GbE minimum. This switch provides it on its multi-gigabit ports — confirm which variant you are buying, as the port mix differs.
Full-functionality power. Check every access point's full functionality figure, not its minimum. A tri-radio Wi-Fi 7 access point on insufficient power will boot, join the controller, report healthy, and silently disable a radio.
Total budget, not per port. A 400 W class budget does not run 24 devices at 60 W. Sum your actual device list — access points, cameras, phones, door controllers — and leave headroom.
Commissioning
After installation, pull the negotiated PoE class and actual link speed for every port and compare against expectation. This takes minutes and catches silent degradation before anyone builds a performance expectation on it.
Key specifications
| Ports | 24x PoE (mix of 1 GbE and 2.5 GbE depending on variant) |
|---|---|
| Uplinks | 10G SFP+ |
| PoE budget | 400 W class, 802.3bt on selected ports |
| Form | 1U rack mount |
| Management | UniFi Network, port profiles, VLANs |
What it does well
- Multi-gigabit access ports, which Wi-Fi 7 access points genuinely need
- 802.3bt support on the ports that require it
- 10G SFP+ uplinks so the switch is not the bottleneck
- Substantial total PoE budget
- Port profiles make consistent configuration across a site straightforward
Where it disappoints
- Audible fans — comms room only
- Single power supply, no redundancy option
- Expensive relative to the rest of the UniFi range
- Total PoE budget still needs checking against your actual device list
- Rack depth and mounting need planning in shallow cabinets
