Ubiquiti UniFi U6 Mesh
Mesh is a workaround for the cost of running cable. Sometimes that workaround is exactly right, and this is a good unit for it.
Place it halfway, not in the problem
The single most common mesh mistake: putting the node in the weak area. A mesh node extends whatever signal it receives — placed in a bad signal, it extends a bad signal.
Put it roughly halfway between the wired access point and the area you are trying to reach, where it sees a strong link to its parent.
The outdoor case
This is where the U6 Mesh earns its place. A weather-resistant, PoE-powered, properly managed access point for a garden, courtyard or outbuilding, at a price that does not require a project.
The honest recommendation
If you can run a cable to where this would go, run the cable and buy a U6+ instead. You will spend less and get better results. Where you genuinely cannot, this is the right unit — and note that it can be wired later without being replaced, which makes it a reasonable hedge.

What it does well
- Genuine outdoor rating — gardens, courtyards, outbuildings
- Can be wired later without replacing it
- 4x4 on 5 GHz gives a better backhaul link than most mesh hardware
- Managed identically to every other UniFi access point
- Flexible mounting including a desk stand
Where it disappoints
- Wireless backhaul halves throughput per hop, as it does for any mesh
- Wi-Fi 6 only, no 6 GHz
- Performance depends entirely on where you put it, and most people put it wrong
- 1 GbE uplink
- More expensive than a U6+ that you cable properly
