The AP25 answers a specific question well: what should a small business buy if it wants good Wi-Fi and does not want to join an ecosystem?

Where it beats UniFi

No controller. Nothing to run, nothing to patch, nothing that fails and takes your management plane with it. For a business with no IT staff at all, that is a real advantage.

4x4 on both bands. A better radio specification than most access points near this price, and it shows with multiple simultaneous clients.

Lower switching costs later. There is no gateway, no switch, no camera line pulling you in. You buy access points and stop.

Where UniFi beats it

Depth. VLANs, per-device PSK, firewall rules, topology and multi-site management are all things UniFi does and Instant On deliberately does not. If you want to grow into those, starting here means changing platform later.

The absence of 6 GHz

Genuine limitation in a congested environment with modern clients. In a quiet office with a mixed client estate, the practical difference is smaller than the specification suggests, and the 4x4 radios do more for you day to day.

Key specifications

Uplink1 GbE

What it does well

  • 4x4 on both bands — unusually good radio specification at this price
  • No licence fee and no controller to maintain
  • Aruba RF engineering heritage shows in real-world performance
  • Works standalone or in a cluster without extra hardware
  • No ecosystem lock-in beyond the access points themselves

Where it disappoints

  • Wi-Fi 6 only — no 6 GHz
  • 1 GbE uplink caps aggregate throughput
  • Cloud-managed only; no local management option
  • Feature set deliberately limited compared with Aruba's enterprise line
  • No per-device PSK or advanced segmentation
